In June 2022, floods triggered by torrential monsoon rains in my homeland, Pakistan, caused the worst flooding in the country's recent history, impacting thirty-three million people. My project revolves around my correspondence with and observations of the flood affectees. It is an appeal to start conversations about current issues that many seem to overlook by bringing them onto social agendas in a way far more powerful than words alone.
‘Unremembered’ involves the process of dissolving all elements of colour and vibrancy from portraits of the flood affectees, leaving behind traces and outlines of the figures in the form of embroidered cloth. Viewers are invited to spray water on the fabric, witnessing it dissolve before their eyes overtime.
